He received his formal training in Art at the VCC Langara Campus Fine Arts program, graduating in 1986 as he walked away with most of the school's awards. He specialized in ceramics and one of his pieces in on permanent display at the school. Since then, Mike has managed to fall in love, raise a family while working various jobs to surpport a career in art. In 1990 Mike unexpectable stumbled into the world of tattoo. After several false starts with various shady characters, Mike finally got it together in the summer of '91 to start Stark Raving Tattoo. AFter yet another false start in a different location and some living room studio time, the Real Stark Raving was begun at 1115 N. Park, Victoria in the summer of '93. The shop has been well received by thousands of customers, many of them loyal repeat from across Canada and around the world. You'll find Mike hard at work most days at 714 Cormorant, training apprentices of his own. Mike and Stark Raving remain vigilently committed to the finest possible tattoo work in the world. Honours and Awards 1984-86 - 2 year University transfer in Fine Arts Programme, Langara College. Graduated in the top 4% of his class. Received awards in Design, printing and drawing. 1986 - David Lambert Ceramics Award. His painting "The Seven Smiling Buddha's" travelled across Canada and hung in Ottawa's Gallery of Fine Arts Talk is cheap.
